While most Americans consider Beef & Broccoli a popular Chinese-style dish, it was actually created in America, not China. The dish became popular in the 1920's, when today's broccoli was first brought to America. If Gai Lan, or native Chinese broccoli was used, the dish would look - and taste - completely different! We may be bias, but we prefer the Chinese-American version. Enjoy!
